I agree here. do the ground mods. I replied to your other post before I saw

Knowing that it's an original CPU will help with future posts on this
thread. Are the power supply and driver board stock boards too?

You can test for the 5v at the CPU, where it comes in. The easiest place
is to put you test leads on the + and - of the caps on the CPU.

The DT reset coil sounds like a bad ground, but it still could be a
combination of a crappy connection and a locked on transistor.

Make certain to do the ground mods as laid out on John Robertson's site at
http://www.flippers.com/gottlieb_ground_cures.html#system1. If all of the
boards are stock in your game, the mods are mandatory, IMO.

It's the original board. This game has been in the family since '78
and I have tried to keep it clean & running. I will check the ground
and contacts and see if it helps. Whoever had this pin first knew
enough to move the battery off the mainboard so that is not a problem.
It is a rechargeable but it is teathered about 6 inches below the
board.

Where is the best place to check the 5v supply? As far as the drop
target coil, It feels slightly energized and want to draw it up if I
move the mechanism, but if I manually move it to the reset position,
it lockes itself there and if I then turn off the power, it releases
so I know it is not a mechanical thing.
