Re: Black Pyramid - What's a real value of this machine these days? Fun factor?

The downside to BP is that the game is really a two trick pony plus
moving target. Once you ace the left and right 'chute' shots...you
can hit it every time again and again. It is a cool machine to learn
tricks on...but outside of that there isn't much to shoot for.
Clearly if you are only going to have one or two machines...there is
better to go for.

I wouldn't have mine if I didn't have a lot of other machines around it.... you got that right! Maybe I can get Oliver K to modify the rule set a bit..... especially the "complete" target! I already have the left lane set to super hard for the EB - I think it's 8 or 9 shots instead of 4 or 5 and it doesn't carry over. Get rid of complete pyramid, put the drops back up after completion, lots of things can change the play.

For one, I would rather have a Mata Hari as there is much more to go
for there.

Mata Hari is the essence of EM as Solid state - bash those targets and make the primitive orbits..... great fun. I may have to add this game to my collection someday.

Even better is Fathom...To me Fathom is one of the best "Street Level"
games that I played. Trouble is finding a good one with a good
playfield and backglass. Very expensive if you are lucky to find
someone to part with it. Again expensive if you want to fully restore
one. But once restored, it should hold up well.

I wouldn't call Fathom a street level in the sense of a simple game - the class of '81 Ballys are some of the more complex 'stuff' wise under the fields. Fathom has 4 target banks! It's tight underneath. I'm also not a big fan of the play of it, but that's subjective anyway.

Bottom line is if you like standard drop targets, Mata-Hari is a good
bet. If you like inline drops and multiball...save up your pasos for
a Fathom.

If you like drop targets get an EBD or Meteor. Meteors can be had very cheaply in project form and even shopped/working - there's no better game for drop targets IMO than meteor. Sadly most are cosmetically rough.....
