I still see people around here talk about getting stuff at Radio Shack

For me, I used to be able to walk in (we're talking maybe 10 years ago
or more) and there was a decent variety of electronic components and
stuff.

There are 2 stores near me, and if I walk in, I'm descended upon by
salesmen who want to sell me HDTV's, cell phones, etc.  If I asked
about Transistors, I'd get "Huh?" as a look.

When I fished around, there was one small wall with some electronic
stuff.  That's it.

Is it different in other areas?

At this point, in Northern NJ, I simply order online - Mouser, Jameco,
Digikey, GPE (great for Pinball specific stuff, Ed does a great job at
pointing you in the right direction), etc.

It's kind of sad there's no good walk in stores anymore.  The last
walk in store I was near that had a LOT of stuff (tools, components,
etc) was around Lawrence Harbor, next to a Perkins restaurant, but I
can't remember the name of it.  Kind of a haul for me to drive there
(1+ hours w/out traffic), so I'd have to need something desperately
(which generally is not the case) or just be in the mood for a long
drive.

the radio *** near me sells everything but electronics. unless
electronic item is defined as:
stihl chain saws and weedeaters, cell phones and accessories (but not
for your phone), toys, surround sound stuff, and buckets of popcorn
and nuts.
so who and what are they paying for franchise fee? wouldn't it be
cheaper to change their name? nothing is supplied by radio shack corp.
anymore.
