Have you done any soldering/desoldering? Replacing a coil is not
hard, but if you have never done anything like that it may seem
challenging. It would best to see it done in person once, I agree.
The concept is simple: heat the connection so that you can take the
wires off of the coil lugs. Replace the coil (and sleeve) and then
attach the wires to the lugs with new heated solder-you weld each wire
in place so to speak. The coil tabs have little slots in the tabs
that you can wrap the wire around just prior to applying new
solder.
Some tips-
1) Before you do anything, make a decent sketch or take a picture of
which wire goes where. Pay attention to the orientation-look which
wire goes to which side of the diode if the coil has one. If you are
doing flippers, only do one at a time so you have a template.
2) Make sure you use the same coil-look at the markings or the owner's
manual
3) Replace the coil sleeve too
4) Use a good soldering iron and a solder sucker and good solder
5) Wear safety glasses. If some hot solder on a floppy wire shoots
back in your eye, you will be sorry.
6) Take your time.
7) If you are not comfortable attempting it ask on here if there are
any locals that can show you how to do it. Where do you live? Once
you do it one time, you will have it down pat.
Good Luck!
Jeff
