Just need a little help in getting my project HH up and running
correctly. Everything is working now except for the top playfield 4
bank drop target reset, the targets drop but won't reset. Switches
are all fine, coil is fine. Any idea's?

Is there a fuse in that circuit?

Fwed

All fuses are good.

Hey SparkUp (let's have a real name here...)

You said that only the 4 target bank fails to reset, right? If both
the 4 and 5 target banks fail to reset, suspect fuse F14, a 2 amp slo-
blo (page 44 of the manual).

The 4 position bank is driven by solenoid #1. Does it reset during
solenoid test (step 17 of the diagnostic tests)? The credit/match
window should show "1", and the bank should reset.

Assuming no joy so far, next...
Remove connector A3J4. This will be on the lower left side of the
driver board in the backbox. Examine the pins inside the connector
with a flashlight. All clean and shiny? Any of them broken?
Reseat the connector and retest. Any change?

Next...
Test the path from the driver board to the coil. Using a jumper wire
(about 6 feet of wire, alligator clips on each end), connect one end
to the green wire with a yellow tracer in the backbox that is probably
connected to the backbox lock assembly. Now, with the game in attract
mode, BRIEFLY, touch the other end of your jumper wire to transistor
Q60, A 2N6043 transistor. Did the coil fire?

If not, it's time to test the coil. Get a 9 volt battery, and with the
game OFF, touch it across the lugs of the 4 target bank coil. Anything
happen? It should move at least a little.

If the coil fired, it's time to suspect the 2N6043 (Q60). Test it per
Clay's guides at www.marvin3m.com/fix. You'll need a DMM to test the
transistor. If it tests bad, replace it. Actually, it could test good
and still be bad. I hate it when that happens ... :-)

Do you have another system 80 game that you can swap the driver board
into your BH? This would isolate it to the driver board (most likely).

Check these things out. Let us know. This will turn out to be a simple
problem.

If you aren't comfortable working on PCBs, find someone who is that
can help you.

If you're in St. Louis, bring it on by. I'll take care of it.
