Re: Tech: Stargate Boot-up Problem(s)

As far ar my Shaq is concerned (not trying to steal the thread) I've tested
the voltage from 5.00v to 5.19v and it's a clean 5v on the scope.

I am having the same problem with my Shaq Attaq...any luck?

Here is a tale of my woes

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.pinball/browse_thread/thread...

Since posting this, I have replaced the U6 (DS1210 watchdog) and U11 on
MPU...and still the same results :(

I can't even narrow it down to a bad MPU or DMD driver board. Finding
someone with known good boardset has proved impossible. Ebay as has 0
listings for the past 3 months. r.gp. WTB posting turned up nothing.

If you leanrn anything, please let me know.

Just got myStargatein today... dead on arrival. Here's the problem:
when I power the game on, I get this high-pitched, continuous strobing
beep, along with garbage on the DMD (actual characters, but
gibberish). This continues ad infinitum, like the game is stuck in
some kind of loop atboot-up (all board LEDs flashing rapidly in
rhythm with the strobing beep).

The battery checks out good. I reseated all ribbon cables. If I turn
the game on without the ribbon cable between the CPU board and the
display board, I get healthy (looking) LED flashes on the boards...
except the CPU LED flashes 3 times, quick pause, 3 times, quick
pause...

What I've read in the Gottlieb System 3 guide at pinrepair.com leads
me to believe the CPU chip U11 could be bad, so I've ordered one from
Marco. But I'm stabbing in the dark at this point. The machine was
reportedly working 100% before it was shipped to me, so I'm assuming
that is the case.

Any ideas out there?

Thanks!

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I'm having the same
problem.

Thanks

Try bumping up the +5v on the power supply; if not then at least
rotate the +5v pot with the power off in case it is dirty or resting
in a dead spot. I have seen this fix this problem many times.
