No Fear Issues: Multiball, Initializing

I'm a newbie and have a couple issues with a No Fear pinball I just
got.

1) When multiball is triggered, only the ball I was already playing
with enters play. No additional balls are added.

2) When powered on, the machine goes into "Initializing... Please
Wait" period for longer than expected. It cycles balls by popping to
the shooter, shooter sends ball to lock area, ball is sent to popper,
popper pops ball to inlane and drains. Usually goes through 6 or 7
balls before allowing the user to play a game.

I do know that the right number of balls are installed, so it's not as
easy as that. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? Are the two
issues related perhaps?
