Coil diode question

Hello everyone, I recently fixed a Hot Tip (SS). It had a burnt out
drop target reset coil, so I ordered a replacement. When I received
the coil it didn't have a diode for some reason, so I took the diode
off the old coil and put it on the new one (Yea, I know, not a good
Idea... but I was in a pinch to get this game working). Anyway, I
played a few games perfectly but after ten or so games I noticed that
the coil was getting weaker and eventually it didn't have enough
"juice" to pop up the targets. (I also noticed that the outhole had to
kick the ball a few times to get it out). A game later the solenoid
fuse blew. I think it is a bad diode...What kind of diode should I use
one the coil?

    ... I just tried the voltage test on the CPU board with the game on and the ... I changed the original coil which was shot, ... Or you put the coil and diode new ones in fired it up kept it on ...
