Lloyd,
I'm begining to think your best advise is to take a break as I am just
about ready to unload this P.O.S. (or unload ON it) for whatever I can
get for it. This machine is driving me absolutely crazy. I check the
coin door switches, behind the coin door interface, behind the CPU,
the power switch, where the cord enters and checked all of the tilt
switches - and still nothing.
This is one of these problems that really tests your love of the
hobby...thats for freaking sure.

That sucks. I'd have lots of ideas, except that the game worked briefly
until you turned it off. I think I'd start with basics and look for stuff
you might have missed. Wall outlet good ? Plug good ? Plug into cabinet -
plugged in tight or soldered on good ? On the inside of the cabinet where
the cord enters - if there is a rubber boot - pull it back and be sure the
connectors are tight. The on and off switch still good ? No loose wires
there ? Then check AC leaving the AC and AC arriving at the driver board.
Then maybe take a break, and rethink anything you missed. Be sure nothing
got behind the coin door interface board, or boards in the head and is
shorting on you. Be sure any switches the coin door activates when open or
closed are wired right and working. LTG :)

I am having some issues with a WPC-95 (Congo). First, the background:
I've had this machine for a few weeks and everything's been working
fine. I decided to bring it down to the basement which requires
removing the backbox (including unplugging all connectors) - which I
have done 20+ times with no problems. I re-assembled the machine in
the basement and played 3 or 4 games and everything worked great, so I
turned the machine off. A few hours later, I decided to play another
game or two - when I turned the machine on, the DMD kind of flickered
a little and then went totally out. Then I realized that all of the
playfield lighting was out as well as the solenoids. The only thing
that works is the sound, switches and backglass lights. After a lot
of testing, I now realize that LED601 on the CPU stays on and does not
turn go off.
Here's what I've done so far:
- Double-checked and triple checked all connectors including re-
seating them
- Pulled all of the fuses and checked continuity (outside of their
holders)
- Checked all of the test points on the driver board
- Tested the TPs:
TP100=11.9V
TP101=5V
TP102=17.5V
TP103=14.1V
TP104=21.2V
- Tested the DMD voltage at the connector:
Pin 1 = -113V
Pin 2 = -101.1V
Pin 6 = +5V
Pin 8 = +63.3V
- Tested a couple of coils and got approx 70V
- Checked all ribbon cables and made sure they are properly plugged in
and oriented
- Check the connectors at the transformer - they are not burnt and are
tight
- I had recently installed a new ROM which had been working fine, so I
re-installed the old (original) one and the problem stayed the same
- I went over the CPU and pushed all of the chips with sockets to make
sure they are in good
That's pretty much where I am at. I fear that something may be really
screwed up with the CPU, but am hoping that I just overlooked
something.
Any suggestions on what to check next?
Thank you,
