Great suggestions on the magnifiers, electronics for dummies, and
words of encouragement.

Part of my issue last night was my gameroom. It was dark outside and
I have no built in lighting in the room. I have a floor lamp that I
move around if I want to look into a pin.

So, this morning, the first thing I did was go into the game room,
open up the blinds and let a ton of light in. I opened up BSD and
looked at the wiring again. There were still no broken wires that I
could see, but I knew it had to be something with the auto plunger.

Still not sure what's up with my date/time error message. I just
replaced the batteries Memorial Day. I'll go out and buy some
batteries again today and replace them.

Thanks again for the encouragement. I know now at least to wait until
I can actually have some light in the room before I even begin to try
to fix something. Wishful thinking is that all future problems are
this easy to fix. : )

Hey, I'm at least taking baby steps.

Wow there has been so much excellent information presented here for
solutions I learned some good stuff also. I just want to add a bit
more. I think you hit on it yourself mentioning "some light in the
room before I begin to try to fix something." I am 51 years old. I
have only been repairing pins 16 months or so.
When I started work as an Electronic Technician performing
component level repair (fairly simple repair) 31 years ago my sight
was the least thing to worry about as far as the job was concerned
because even though I had been wearing glasses for being nearsighted
(for 12 years at that time) I could see well. Fast forward through 25
years or so without trying any board level soldering (or any fairly
small electromechanical work) and it was hell to do.
About two years ago I got trifocals and it was hard as heck to
get accustomed to it helps greatly. The intermediate range is good for
reading a computer display. However after all this the main thing that
helps me is as much light that you can get on the pin without a glare
to see all the pinball parts and mechanisms. I use many different
types depending on where I need to look and where I can get a light
mounted that is not in the way. Sometimes I use a double tube plastic
enclosed fluorescent (like from Sears, Home Depot, etc) that way the
light is cool and will not conduct electricity to possibly short
something out (don't ask), sometimes a simple clamp on light with an
outdoor spot bulb. Try it out and it should help greatly.

Thanks for the reminder Steve, I still need to go out and find proper
lighting. I guess that'll be my weekend quest.
