In the auto industry, if you make a material change you just change
the material and keep the same geometry... so when doing A to B
testing, you need parts that are the same geometry with the same
features (hole placement, outside shape and thickness). Then you need
to run the test in the same way...IE apply your loads in the same
direction and the same amount.
Having parts with the same geometry would help build confidence even
if you are just wailing on them with a hammer....keeping the wailing
consistent in the manner in which you wail would also help in my
opinion.
Different materials have many different characteristics... impact
resistance, temperature, tensile strength, yield strength etc.
