Re: TECH: 555 Lamps in palce of 906

Cheers for that reply, I may put some low ohm limiting resistors in to get the voltage down some and maybe I will get more life out of them or totally modify what I am building, I will run a full day flashing bench test on some 555's tomorow at 13v and see just how long I can get them to last, I currently have 3 on test in the TAF Power Cloud and they have been going for the past week and have not started to go black yet so it looks like there may be some different results for different brands.

I guess another question is are there any brighter 13v wedge lamps out there than 906's?

Hi all,

Anyone ever tried this I am working on a Mod that needs a higher light
output as the coloured plastic the light needs to shine through is thick, I
have bench tested a 555 lamp for a few hours on a flasher circuit running at
the same voltage as a Machine and the lamp held up and did not seem any
worse for ware, dows anyone think there will be any major issues doing this
or has enyone else used 555's as flashers before? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

The 555 lamp is 6.3 volt and the 906 is 13 volt. They probably won't
last too many flashes. When I picked up a Judge Dredd it had 555's in
the police light flashers by the ramp entrances. They were super
bright but only lasted through maybe one or two balls before burning
out.
