Ok, way off topic, but you guys know a lot about electronics so -
heres the problem. I have a Samsung set top box for for over-the-air
hi-def channels. The sound just cuts out for a split second every now
and then and its aggravating as hell. The picture never wavers though.
I have swapped out the fiber optic cable and the set top box both and
it is definitely in the box. Anyone have any idea what to look for? I
know I'm reaching here....

Often this problem is with the a/v receiver. There are cases where
some receivers just don't work well with certain digital sources.
Which receiver are you using?

Thanks guys - I have a Denon receiver, its not a cheapie. I'll check
for audio drop w analog vs. digital and try blowing out the optical
output, and resetting the box itself. Its weird because HER box works
just fine. (kinda openig myself up on THAT one...)- Hide quoted text -

Sorry, I should have said that the problem is the compatibility
between the a/v receiver and the stb. I know for a while there was a
problem with certain Denon's (3800 series???) with certain stb's. I
don't remember off of the top of my head the specifics though. I want
to say that the fix involved hard coding the digital input. For
example most digital inputs are set to auto decode. I remember with
this problem that you had to either hard code it to dolby digital or
pcm. I would search on the internet for your model of a/v receiver and
audio dropouts. Or also add the stb model number to your search. It
might just happen that other folks have run into this problem.
