Re: POTC opto question

Compare it to one of the other boards in your game. There are other opto
switches in POTC correct? If one of the other boards is working correctly
and has both LEDs lit, then you're right, the issue may be with the board
(could still be a bad LED receiver though).

If you have the ability, take (with the power to the game off) the known
good board and swap it for the possibly bad one. Does the problem stay with
the board? Board problem then. My guess though is you've got a bad or
broken receiver LED and switching the under playfield boards will not change
anything. This technique will tell you if it's the board or not though.

The way an opto switch works in a pinball machine is one side is a
transmitter (shines red on Stern), the other side is a receiver and will
not
shine red. The non-lit receiver sees the lit transmitter and activates
the
switch when the beam is broken, but the receiver never lights. Normal
operation.

If you're wanting to compare your opto, simply look at one of the other
optos in your game that is working. The circuits are the same, you don't
need to compare the exact same opto in a different game.

Can someone that has POTC check to see if the opto on the left side of
the chest entrance is lit red.. My game is spitting balls out when you
hit the chest, no matter if key is lit or not.. I am trying to narrow
down my problem, and am wondering if this left side is bad, as My left
side opto is not lit red.. Can someone check to tell me if it is
supposed to be lit red on the left side..- Hide quoted text -

I dont think my problem is in the chest area then.. I think I have a
bad optical switch on your ball trough.. One of the little boards on
the through.. I think both lights on this little board are supposed to
be red.. One of the little boards on mine has a 1 red and the other is
out.- Hide quoted text -

Cool, thanks for the explanation..
