UPDATE

Voltage at J120-3 is around 70V. All the other wires going into J120
measure 73V. Would that cause the magnet not to work? A bit curious
why it's 3V lower.

So here are the facts. There is power going into J120-3 but the magnet
does not energise when you run the test (and yes, the door is closed).
Is this a transistor problem? How do I check that?

Problem solved. Sometimes it's just too obvious. There was a break in
the red-grey further up the line near the ringmasters collar. When the
head was up the 2 broken wires were touching, making a circuit. When
the head was down, the wires were apart and there was no circuit. I
was measuring voltage with the head up but testing the magnet with the
head down. I'm just relieved I didn't have to send the board off for
repairs.

By the way, you can redirect the harness outside the whole assembly so
it doesn't bend at 90 degrees like before. You just need to detach the
connector, pull it out through the small oval opening at the bottom
and then let it hang loose on the side. When the ringmaster goes up
and down there is plenty of play in the harness and it doesn't bend
anywhere. Finish it off with some nice spiral wrap and it looks A1 and
will never break again. I don't know why they didn't do it like that
from the factory.
