Maybe because some of us are at work when posting and being behind a
corporate firewall does NOT allow the use of the ports needed for news
readers.
I think Giganews lets your reader connect on port 80 for exactly that reason. My problem is that our ISP at work dropped news service so I either have to pay for giganews or find a free one, I found a free one. Rare to find a free one that allows posting though.
I'm getting used to Thunderbird now but I'm not reading as many groups as I used to - lots of times I would click on peripherary groups just to read the low traffic. Now I just read RGP.....
