Re: Pinball Magic Restoration

Rich,
I haven't tried truckbed liner paint but will the next time. I used
outdoor enamel, light coats as it was mostly just covering smallish
scratched. I replaced the flippers, plungers and links just to keep that
more original. You could almost say as a homage to Capcom who I think made
the best flippers ever... very snappy, good arc range and adjustable
strength.

I rebuilt the scoop hole, touched up the pf and clearcoated it. Yeah, I had
fun doing the hat, actually bought a couple of used plastic pieces I needed
and a more messed up hat than I had (in case the experiment didn't work out
too well).

I had the purple color matched by computer at Lowe's. I had in mixed in
semi-gloss Acrylic Latex and am happy with the result of the test spots that
I did. Took the color of a piece from inside the backbox so it's a no-fade
match. Formula is... 102-33.5 105-2.5 113-6 115-2Y6 This formula is for a
Quart - And the base is a 4. The brand was American Traditions.

Very nice restoration! Real nice job on the backbox. Where did you get
your purple paint from? Did you use the truckbed liner paint on the
side rails and lockdown bar? I couldn't find all the replacement parts
for my PM and if I did they were way too much. So I just replaced the
whole Capcom flippers assembly with WPC flipper assemblies and it
works fine. Much much cheaper and I will always have replacement
parts.

Did you replace the playfield? It looks great. I noticed the underside
looked very clean. I love your JB weld on the top hat idea. I thought
about doing that but I wanted to leave one crappy piece on mine to
remind me of what it looked like before I restored it. It's always fun
to try and rebuild and restore what you have rather than replace
everything with NOS parts. Makes for a real challenge, especially with
a Capcom. Good job!
