Each show or tournament is special for it's own reasons. Fortunately there
are many events across the USA, and lots of variety. From coast to coast you
read about Expo, California Extreme, PAPA, Rochester, Allentown, etc. etc.
We are lucky these events are there. A chance to meet lots of people and
play lots of games.
Granted you have time and money invested if you travel to an event. So it's
up to you to decide what you are looking to get out of an event, and then
study old posts on this newsgroup, show reports on Pinball News
http://www.pinballnews.com/ or post here and ask people's opinions on how a
particular event is. No sense wasting your time and money if you think a
show isn't quite what you are looking for. No matter how hard people try,
you can't please everybody.
And when you do go to an event, thank the people running it, because if they
don't do it, the event won't happen. Most people don't have an idea on what
is all involved on putting something on, and don't realize once an event or
show calls it quits, it's gone forever, nobody else is going to step up and
do it. The locals will suffer the most, because now they can add travel to
their expenses if they want to go to a show or tournament.
And lastly, when you go to a show, it's okay to think what you can do to
help make it better. Expo 2000 had very few machines there. Some people
bitched, but some people got together and decided Expo is "THEIR" show too,
what can they do to make it happen. And look at Expo today, all that goes on
with bringing in machines, running Pinbrawl, a lot of people selfishly
contribute to make it a great event. And I'm sure some people think that the
organizers make money off the show. I hope so, because events losing money
won't be around forever.
So it's all on you, do your homework, or contribute. Or stay home. If you
aren't going to participate, you won't be missed by all those there having a
blast. LTG :)

First Show, ever.
Pinball at the zoo.
About a dozen working SS games, out of 30 present.
About 10 EM games working, out of 15 present.
About 30 arcades, about 20 working.
All but one vendor with dirty, crappy parts with prices that at times
are more then the online retailers selling new.
Game deals? Maybe.
Haunted House for $1400 obo
Road Show $1400 obo.
Both a bit rough but working.
No flea market.
How does this compare to Allentown or the fall show in York?
I really need to know before I:
1. take a vacation day
2. Travel
3. pay for a hotel room
4. Travel some more
5. live with the remorse :-)
Not sorry I did it, but I won't do it again unless there's some hope
for better. (wayyyy better that is)
.
