Yes, the 24v lead goes to the lug with banded side of the diode. If
the wiring is put on in reverse, the game is trying to backfeed 24v to
the driver board. The worst that could happen is a lot worse than a
blown fuse. However, if it is and was wired correctly, there is a
transistor under the PF that drives this coil. Check to make certain
it is not failing, too.
I don't know if whomever you bought the replacement coil from has a
particular method of which direction the diode is placed on a coil.
Some coils are installed with the lugs away from the coil stop, while
others are installed vice versa. Where specific wires go on a coil is
something that should definitely be checked prior to installation.
You stated that the CPU is detecting the kickerholeswitch as the
outhole switch in test mode. If this is what you actually mean, then
something is awry with your switch matrix. The first thing that I
would check is the iso diodes of both switches to make sure they're
within spec. If one is bad, and they're on the same return line, it
could be feeding the signal back to the CPU incorrectly. And yes, the
iso diodes are located either under the PF or in the cabinet on little
bakelite boards. The one for theholekicker and outhole should be
under the PF. Also, when you put it into switch test mode, what does
it display when the outhole switch is closed?

Ok, I thought about that, as I understand the lug with the banded
diode side get the hot +24? power, and the other is ground, with the
new one put in place its reversed, i thought this was strange, could
the diode be put on the coil wrong before it was sent to me? prob.
not, and what's the worst that will happen if I switch the wires to
the opposite lug? blow a fuse?
When you say check the iosloation diode for the kicker and outhole (I
thought these were the same thing) and these on the diode banks
mounted under the playfield and bottom of the cabinet? or on the
coil?- Hide quoted text -

I think you might be on to something with the coil having the lugs on
the coil stop side or vice-versa...The 24v power wire is definately on
the lug with the banded side of the diode. I got it from
pbresource.com, and when I got ready to switch it out with the old
one, the only thing that seemed different was they had the coil sleeve
in the opposite direction as the old one I took off, and just thought
maybe they slid it inside the coil the wrong way, he asked me what I
using it for in the game so they would put the right sleeve in it. So
maybe I need to take it out and simpy turn it around and install the
other way?
Just to clarify this for me, but when I say I did the #18 switch test,
and I did was go into the bookkeeping mode and 15 pops up without
touching or setting off any switches. Before when I did that test the
only one showing as closed was the ball trough which made complete
sense with 3 balls in there waiting to go.
But I'm a little confused when you say check the diode for both theholekicker and the outhole, aren't these the same thing, theholeon
top PF that can capture the ball and kick it back out?- Hide quoted text -

doh!, think I may have figured out the question I had about clarifying
the diff. between the outhole and hole-kicker, Is the outhole where
the ball comes out into the shooting lane for the plunger? is so I
know why it probably registering as closed when I ran the switch test
and got 15, I was using a wadded up rag stuffed in their to keep the
balls from rolling out when I lift the PF to work underneath.
Will confirm this tonight after work, and see if turning that coil
around the other direction works.
