Nobody's mentioned this yet and you didn't say you'd tried it, so
let's not assume the trough switches are working. Have you gone into
switch test and actually seen that all 3 were showing as closed? If
you carefully reach in through the coin door and "jiggle" the trough
switches, can you get the game to start?
Try cleaning the contact points of the switches with a metal polish,
such as wenol, brasso, etc. Tarnish can build up on the points that a
normal "business card" style cleaning cannot remove.
A suggestion I saw another poster make about re-seating the wires in
the IDC connectors at the boards is a decent one. IDC's don't grip
the wires very well and over the years the wires can become loose.
Doug's comment about popping the MPU and driver apart and re-seating
is a good idea, too. Removing the connectors for the switch matrix
and re-seating them should be done, too.
If it hasn't been done on your machine, you should absolutely
re-solder the header pins on all the boards, but particularly the MPU
and driver board. Cracked solder joints are very common on these
machines after all these years and will give you all sorts of
problems. This is required maintenance for these games, bottom line.
As far as replacing the 40 pin connector parts on the MPu and driver,
I call BS on that. It's a big pain in the ass, it's possible to
damage the boards when removing the old connectors, and in my
experience (and that's fixing a lot of System 6 & 7 games) it just is
not necessary. If you can find some, try Guitar Center, Fry's, etc.
get some DeOxit spray and spray it inside that connector row while you
have the MPU and driver separated. Of course this is after you've
resoldered the header pins.

Richard offered me the same advice for Alien Poker on the boards and
it has worked great ever since reflowing all the pins and using the
deoxit in the c40 pin connector. No point removing that sucker if you
don't have to.
