Re: Sterns memory stick info needed

Office Max had Verbatim 1 gig sticks on sale last week for $14.99.
Office Max sends out $10 off cards all them time.
I used it today to back up 9.0 and update to 10.0.
Worked great.
When I first plugged it in to my XP computer it read that is was FAT.

Do I have to buy it from a Stern distributor or can I go to like a

What's a ballpark price?

Thanks

Almost any usb drive you buy today should work. If your sole purpose
is pin updates dont pay for a usb 2.0 drive. You can usually find usb
1 drives for 20 bucks for a gig on sale. The trick is formatting them
using FAT32. When you first hook the drive up to the computer it will
most likely be formatted. Once your computer loads the drivers and
recognizes the drive open your "my computer" and right click on your
flash drive. Pick the format option. It will give you a list of
options as to how to format it, chose FAT32 and quick format. After
its done unzip the stern update file and copy the .bin file to the
flash drive. Then follow the instructions on the machine.

I spoke with Stern tech support a couple of days ago about this very
thing - what USB units I could use - and he said that they had tested
them by using FAT16 (not 32!) and simply had an XP machine format the
suckers. The files MUST be in the USB device's root directory otherwise
they can't be found.

Well, I tested it with fat32 and it works fine ;-)
