Re: Crazy BSD Mist Multiball Issue?

Test mode may power the motor differently, like the coils, and a different
speed might not show up a break or bad connector. LTG :)

He said it runs fine, all the way across, in the manual test, so it's
not likely a pinched wire.

I've seen my game do something similar when it wants to re-stage all
the balls. It will pull the ball about halfway across the playfield
and let go, letting it drain... it then cycles a new one to the upper
right staging area.

Couple things to try:

Factory reset. The game could just be confused.. it happens
occasionally, and BSD's software is not bug-free. Yank the batteries
with the power off to do a full reset, see if it behaves afterward.
Also make sure you have the lastest revision, although I don't think
BSD got past L-1

Check other switches. Could be the ball trough switches, or the
switch under the plunger-ramp is bad, which is confusing the ball
count and causing the game to dump the ball. Odd that it would do so
in load magnet test, but you never know.

Also might want to re-run the manual test a few times to absolutely
rule out broken wires (as Lloyd suggested) .. you could be the victim
of bad coincidence (the harness just happened to work on the manual
test out of random luck...).

Im hoping someone might be able to help lead me on the right path to
fixing my mist multiball on Bram Stoker's Dracula.

A bit of background. I received the game missing the right wire gate
and with a dead magnet motor. I located the gate and fixed the motor
(broken inductor on motor emi pcb). I also suspected the long range
emitter opto was bad so I replaced it as well. I also swapped the
sw24 opto pcb out of my shadow, since the current one had a broken
inductor on it as well. Everything looks like it should be all ready
to go now but I still have one issue.

Currently it is having problems with dragging the ball across. At
startup of a game, it fails to load the mist ball and then the motor
goes back and forth, back and forth for awhile. The gates open and
close when needed. If I place a ball on the magnet, it will drag it
1/3 across then drop it. This happens in both directions. In fact,
if I do an "load magnet" test, I get the same behavior. I tried
manually blocking an opto while it was dragging the ball, with the
theory that the game will think the ball is always on the magnet. But
it still drops in the same places.

But the odd part is that if I do a 'magnet on + left' or a 'magnet on
+ right' test, the ball gets dragged the whole way across. I ran this
over and over and the ball never drops but completes the whole
movement across the playfield. This eliminated the idea of a wire
being pinched when the motor is moving.

Any suggestions? I am starting to think that operators must have had
a real fun time trying to keep this option working when the game was
on location.
