Re: Tech: LOTR Balrog not returning properly

Check the motor relay underneath the pf for bad solder joints...
mine had that too...

Update on Balrog.

Works fine in test mode, no problems at all.

As part of my testing I wanted to make sure that the wiring loom
underneath wasn't catching on anything (per suggestion), so I flipped
up the playfield and ran the test. With the playfield all the way up
the Balrog never moves from it's closed position, power of gravity
being too much for the motor I guess. So then I tried a balancing act
of having the playfield at various angles couldn't really get a decent
test.

What I was missing was an assistant who could hold the playfield at a
certain level while I ran the test and watched the wiring loom. It was
virtually impossible (for me anyway) to do this on my own, so next time
a friends drops by that's what we are doing.

FWIW - I've been playign the game regularly and haven't encountered
this issue since. At this point in time I think it's one of the
switches on the motor making too early and stopping the Balrog from
opening all the way up but can't be certain.

tks for the help & advice.

regards
Paul

Simply reheating the male pins for the connectors along with the solder
joints of the relay board worked well for me.
Then I realized that the vibration (possibly accelerated with an
enhanced subwoofer) would make them loose again. Gravity is also
against you, so I used a tie-wrap around the small board and the relay
(not overly tight) to help keep it secure.

I have an extra new board if anyone is interested. ... $32 shipped.

You may also want to Google about relay board problems and the
connection to that relay. I believe one thread is called the one-way
Balrog or something.
