I did not change my stance. I still buy anything that says "no way to
test" as NO WORKY! Pay or bid accordingly. I will have to fix it.
Maybe I'll get lucky! My position is after looking at it, sizing and
up the potential problems, looking for discolorations, asking for more
or better pictures, or show me the back side, can I fix it?. Not
everyone has the time in, or electronic experience to do this. If I
can't get my request filled I just move on.
I now understand more volume sales. If I was not in the business, and
just a collector, I am sure what I was selling was left overs from my
last project and thus, the machine to test it in was used, and it did
not work. But when I am standing here holding a display from an early
Atari game, and there isn't one in this shop, (hasn't been one in 7
years, how can I sell this without saying "no way to test". Spend one
to three months building a test fixture to test a display? Absolutely
not. But a WPC driver board? Hey, I can test that in five different
games in the shop tonight. I no longer have a Gottlieb sys 1, or 80 in
the shop. I only have one early Bally left, no Game Plans, Allied
Leisures, Coffee Mats, Zaccaria's, very early William's, or Atari's.
Kind of hard to test the stuff, huh?
But I also know the stuff I am selling. I have sold several boards as
"no way to test" that were fine, and the buyer told me so. That makes
me happy.
I still believe some people, mostly container buyers, are dumping
their junk via this method.

You know the reason behind most auctions that claim 'untested' or
'never bothered to turn it on..' ..
I respectfully disagree with you.
But you wholeheartedly agreed with that statement last year, Mario:
"I have no way to test: Probably means, I know it's bad, I hope I can
get you to think it may work and buy it. Consider it doesn't but,
hint, hint, wink, wink, it might. Anyway it didn't work. The funny
thing is everything I have ever bought with that claim of, "no way to
test", has EVER WORKED! What's the odds that all the items would be
bad? You just expect it at the time of purchase and when you see it be
pretty sure the seller knows it doesn't work. But if he/she makes
that statement, it's a nail in the item's coffin for sure."
