Re: Tech:WPC95 and L flipper hold issue

Thanks guys - this gives lots of info to test - I appreciate it and will
post results ..

A couple easy tests you can do is to momentarilly ground the tab of Q89
with the power on and coindoor closed. This should turn "on" your
flipper hold. You may or may not have to manually raise the flipper
first, then ground the tab. If the flipper holds you know your flipper
coil is OK. If this test verifys coil is ok, move back to the pin on
the IC that drive this circuit which is pin 5 of IC U8. If you
momentarilly ground this pin, the 2N4403 and Q89 TIP102 should turn on
and yield the same result as your first test. If so you know everything
from pin 5 out to the coil is OK, and the problem is previous to that,
possibly U8. If grounding pin 5 doesn't result in the hold working, you
know the problem is between there and the tab of the TIP102. Either
open lays on the board, bad resistor near these parts ect. Don't leave
pins grounded for long during these tests, just long enough to gain a
little info.

Trying to troubleshoot a left flipper hold issue on my A*F*M - WPC95
Originally when power came on, left flipper energized and stayed held
on.

At this point, you needed to replace the coil and the driver
transisitors, the same time. If either one is bad, you can damage the
other (i.e. bad coil, will blow transistors, bad transistors will
damage coils.)

So I am stuck.
Thanks for any suggestions -

Also, if that coil is damaged from reverse wiring, you may damage the
circuit.
remove the coild
De-solder the diodes on the coil
check coil resistances
check diodes
reattach diodes

Then, it sounds like an open path in the hold circuit.

Check all traces, and your soldering.
Rember to check by touching the component legs, or header pins -- not
the traces on the board.

let us know if you find it.
