Tech: Williams System 11b (Whirlwind) Lower GI, A/C relay interaction

I'm having some unusual behavior on my Whirlwind project (seems like
once I fix one thing, another pops up...!). Essentially the lower
playfield GI is flipping on and off, seemingly coincident with the
A-Side of the A/C select relay. A few of my observations:

- During the coil test, the lower PF GI will flip on and off, on for C
Side tests, off for A Side tests. All of the coils and flashers appear
to be operating properly, however.
- During switch level test, C Side is continuously active.
- A/C select relay test: Reports error when selecting A Side. Judging
by that and the switch level test, it appears that the C Side switch is
constantly set.
- Disconnecting the control wires to the lower PF GI relay board makes
the above A Side error go away (and obviously the GI stops turning on
and off).
- During a game I can hit a slingshot to turn the lower GI off, then
hit one of the lower jets to turn the lower GI back on. (slings and
jets are Special 50V and Special 25V respectively)

I'm learning a lot, but I don't yet know enough to put all of this
together. On the surface it appears that the solenoid matrix lines
that activate the lower PF GI relay are also causing the C-Side switch
to be closed (because disconnecting them from the relay board gets rid
of the A/C select test problem)... but I don't understand how that
might happen.

I first noticed the problem shortly after replacing a burnt GI power
connector on the backbox interconnect board and doing a bit of cleaning
under the apron.

Any pointers? Thanks!

Adam
