Re: How hard is it to repopulate a playfield

What I did on my first PF swap was take a pencil and mark all the wire
colors on the new PF that need to be resoldered to the new locations,
like to the popbumpers and targets. Then I marked each of the holes
that were going to be questionable about what was supposed to be there
with small diagrams, like brackets and wire loom clips, and that
helped. Remember that all short screws will be for lights and stuff
that doesn't get hit by the ball, and that long ones will be for
targets, etc. If you can, lay them side by side, and when everything is
unscrewed, slide the whole mess from the old right onto the new and
begin reattaching everything so you know where it is all supposed to be
right then - don't wait too long or things can become questionable
about where and how. For me it was easier because I wasn't replacing
mine with an NOS PF, it was a used one that I had fixed up, so the
ground braid, etc, was still intact. And remember, once you have it all
reassembled, before you do ANY playing, run your diagnostics and check
EVERY switch, every coil, every thing that might possibly need
adjusting, or you can fry your boards in short order. I learned that
one the hard way - I was so excited about getting it back together that
I didn't realize that all sorts of switches were closed and
misadjusted. But when it all started smoking I realized my mistake. I
won't do that anymore though - by my second PF swap I had it all
perfect before I started a game.
