IMO it really comes down to price/title mix.
For example:
If you are asking $2000 for a T2 you better have pics of everything and
be willing to answer all of my questions in detail, and I better be
able to come over and inspect the machine to my liking. It had better
be mint and I better feel all warm and fuzzy inside before I hand you a
stack of dough and leave with it.
If you are asking $1000 for a T2, a simple "It is in decent shape"
would probably suffice.

I think you're right. It's just irritating at times though to think
you might have a decent lead on a pin you're looking for and you end up
with one of these clowns. I've a mind to start bringing up some of
these guys names on this board as a few of them post here fairly
frequently looking to sell pins.

They are being considerate. They are telling you to not bid on their crap.
No deal is always better than a bad deal. LTG :)

I'm running into more and more sellers lately that consider the giving
of information for machines they are looking to sell to be akin to
revealing family secrets. I can't tell you how many times I've sent
long and very specific emails asking questions to help me determine the
condition of a machine and end up getting back some 10 word reply
ignoring most of my questions and answering with some basic lingo like
"playfield is in great shape, no fade."
What I'm finding even more absurd is guys that are looking to sell a
machine and don't have any pictures. I usually end most of my emails
with a comment to please let me see some pictures and it amazes me how
many times I get responses like "I'll send you some later today" and
then of course nothing ever comes. Almost as bad are those that supply
pics but they are so bad and taken so far away that you can't gage
condition anyway. Of course when you ask for more detailed shots they
never show up either.
I obviously won't do business with these guys and agree with most that
buying locally so that you can see the merchandise firsthand is the way
to go. There are pins however that are good deals (and sometimes only
available) from out of state that have been successfully transacted via
informative emails and good pictures. I'm reasonably certain that many
sellers here advertise with some expectation that their market will
extend beyond their local area and as such should be prepared to
provide plenty of answers and pictures. So I just don't get what goes
on in these guys minds and can only come to the conclusion that short
of massive stupidity they must be scam artists.
