I have not had problems getting the background sound
to work on the Green Flipper ROM version of Flash.
Just make sure adjustment #33 is set to 01. Still not working?
Try setting adjustment #31 to 01.

Got some info on it on our site now (see prev. reply in this thread).
I was talking to some folks at the RMPS show over the weekend about this and
Dan Gutchess said that all Flash games were supposed to have the background
sound from factory (Flash was adverstized as first game to feature this) but
that it was normally turned off by default (factory setting) so ops had to
manually turn it on to make it go.
I have two Flash games that have the older Yellow ROM version (0486 2) and
it works on these. I have a friend in town with a working Flash with the
later green roms (1486 1 or 1486 2) and we've never been able to get it to
work the same in his game... So not totally sure at this point...
No difference in sound ROM- it is the same between games (and used in some
other models, too- it's Sound ROM 2 IIRC...) The "background sound" is
controlled by the game ROM software apparently...
The background sound in Flash is a constant tone that increases in
pitch/intensity as play progresses, then resets after it gets to a certain
high pitch. It's similar to Meteor's background sound. Blackout has one
that's similar too but increases by spinner hits rather than actual points.
Very cool and makes the game more intense!

There's no way to really tell, yellow version 2 may or may not be newer
than green version 1. That's like saying the DOS 6.22 is newer than
windows 98 version 2. They could have corrected a problem in the
yellow roms that was not present in the green roms because they had
already rolled the fix in, or not bothered to fix it at all. (Wonder
how many sys6 vs. sys4 flashes out of the 19,000 there are?)
It's probable assuming whomever made the rom archive at williams that
the green roms are in fact the latest roms because the latest roms seem
to be what is on the site. There's no easy way to tell what has been
changed between revisions from that era. According to Ray at action
pinball there's one revision of Flash that has really cool sounds....
which must be the SOUND rom since the CPU there only grounds inputs to
the sound card. I'm waiting for him to put that machine together to
see exactly what it is..... some kind of warbling sound he described.
