Re: Elvira won't talk but the other guy does

My board does have the U6 chip. I should qualify everything by stating
it is the board out of my Whirlwind (the Whirlwind sound board with all
the Elvira ROMS is still missing her voice too). The board that came
with it was misiing every single socketed chip. Every last one. I
replaced 6808's, 6821's 7400 series, ROMS, you name it. I did get it
to start but two coils stayed locked on and in my attempt to fix that
problem the board is now locked up. Maybe I should send both out to
repair so long as someone knows the MPU has been heavily worked on
before and after me. I'm sure it's something simple LOL.

In addition to all these problems it had a shooter actuator that was JB
Welded, that lasted about three balls. You have to buy the whole
assembly from PBR. I never realized there were two left handed
displays and after replacing the glass and the UDN7180's I plugged them
in and one immediately blew the 7180's again (apparently you can't plug
two lefts in one machine without damage). I had already re-built the
high voltage section which I no longer need because I gave up on
finding a right display and ordered the PIN LED's.
Plus it had legs from two different machines, no translight glass for
the translight that was folded in half.

I have over thirty machines in my collection and I just want to let
everyone know even someone with experience can get burned. I paid
$960.00 for this piece of crap and have probably put in another $500.00
plus who know how much of my own time in it. Be careful what you buy
out there. I've had good experience with Kirk in the past and he did
sell this as a project so I'll give benifit of the doubt he took it in
and turned it around. As someone who loves the hobby I wouldn't have
been able to sell it on EBAY for that price knowing what someone would
have to put into it. After a period of doing nothing with itbecause I
bought it as a project it was PAINFULLY obvious someone used this as a
donar machine when I started tearing into it. Buyer Beware.
