Couldn't somebody make little translucent white tops or condoms or caps
for them that would diffuse the light around in? And shape it like a
lens of some sort like curved on one side and flat on the other so it
spreads it out? Whatever shape of lens that if you shine light in one
end, it would diffuse it in all directions on the other end.

You can change the focus by changing the shape of the lens, only problem is, the internal reflector is focused on the lens for maximum performance, though any change will normally widen the light pattern, the intensity will drop the wider the pattern. ...
