Re: Possible BBB for sale

To answer your question Bryan, I have made money on some pins I have
sold. BUT I put work into every one of them, and from an hourly wage
perspective I clearly lost money. I have never bought something and
resold it untouched for a profit just because I held it and it
appreciated. And I have never resold parts I have bought and held for
a profit either. I make plenty of money at work, pinball is for fun.

And to be honest, the pins I did restore or shop and sell for a
"profit" made me feel guilty. I felt I was being greedy, but I knew
damn well if I didn't make some money on the games I wouldn't be able
to justify my next purchase because every other seller had jacked up
their prices as well. And despite the fact I did make some money, I
sold the games for very reasonable prices. Many have even told me I do
nice work and I could have sold the games for more. But why? I was
happy with the money, and the buyers got a fair deal. Is it really
necessary for everybody to squeeze out every dime they can get their
greedy mits on?

I just feel this whole "rare" issue, and hedging, and gouging is
riduculous and unsavory. Does everyone in this hobby depend on pinball
to make a living? I know some people are in this for a business such
as ops, retail joints, parts distributors, and that is fine if they
need to make a fair profit. But don't the rest of the people who
consider this a "hobby" make enough at work that they don't have to
calculate a return on their friggin pinball machines? Why should a BBB
interest be sold for what it was bought for, or better yet less than
what it was bought for? Somebody who ponyed up the dough and can't
handle the heat should take a loss, just like anything else. Why the
hell should somebody make any $$$$ selling a thing they never received,
might not ever recieve, and didn't lift a finger to do any work on
other than write a check? If anything they should get back the $$$$
invested plus the 3% interest they could have earned, but making a
double digit gain? WTF?

Sorry but this will always be a sore spot for me. When I want to stress
out about returns, hedges, derivatives, and futures I will stick to
stocks, bonds, or commodities. When I want to have some fun I will
turn to pinball. If others would adopt that philosophy the "hobby"
would be much better off.
