New or not, being told that what he's doing is unacceptable by
established rules, and then doing the exact same thing he was told is
unacceptable, is idiotic, rude, offensive, and yes, indicative of a
person who's a *pest*. "I'm new to this" is *not* the same as saying
"I don't understand the English language and can't follow simple
instructions that are there to make the place a decent community for
everyone, not just me."
It's odd that you think I'm blasting the guy just because he's new.
When I first started out in the pinball community, I was brand spanking
new to the internet. I'd never really had email before, or posted to
newsgroups before, or what have you. And yes, back then, I *still*
hated AFM. Well, being brand new, I didn't know that it was verboten
to openly post into a newsgroup (without the author's permission)
quotes from an email Lyman had sent me. I did this just as a matter of
course, not knowing the holy terror I would arouse.
The hammer, it *did* come down, and pretty harshly. I dare say, a
*heck* of a lot more harshly than I even came *close* to dishing out to
Mr. I-Need-A-Creature-Translite. I got some *serious* venom thrown my
way by several people, publicly and privately, including words that I
couldn't use, nor would I choose to. I did apologize to Lyman (who
wasn't one of the venom-spewers, by the way), and the group, as it was
unintentional, but it was *my* mistake, and I owned up to it. I then
*read the darned FAQ*, if you can believe it.
Guess what I have never, *ever* done since then, hmm? I have *never*
posted a private email publicly, or any part of one.
So, you see, it's not *about* whether he's new or not. Go back and
read my original correction. It may have been snide, but it was most
definitely *not harsh*. It was a not-so-subtle reminder that he was
going overboard, above and beyond the acceptable parameters set up for
posting, bumping, etc. If I'd wanted to be a jerk about it, there'd
have been no mistaking it: I am *not* one to hold my feelings back.
Yet, this pest-like idiot *continued* to exhibit the same, exact
behavior that he did before. He's not "just new," as you seem so
hell-bent on conveying...he's obstinate, rude, whiney, and a general
jackass.
If that means that I've "run him off from the newsgroup," as you pretty
much state in another post, well then, I've done my good deed for the
day! Look at the other names that are popping up in the thread...are
*any* of them, besides you, defending this guy? Even the one guy who
tracked down a repro translite *didn't defend the guy*!
Grab yourself some smelling salts and buy a clue! Your intentions may
be good, but you're backing a horse that doesn't run.
