The MB3730A is a rugged design made for car radios. It has over
voltage protection to 50V short time surge, 18V Max Vcc, load short
protection plus thermal protection. It is a strong chip with a cost of
around $12 in 1999. There is a British supplier pricing individual
chips at around $15.00 plus shipping. I don't know of a pin for pin
substitute, and don't know if it is worth the effort of building a sip
daughter board for a non-pin for pin AMP substitute that would likely
be of less rugged design. There are multiple volume suppliers of this
chip and you could buy a bunch and resell some to others if there is
need. I suspect this chip may have low failure rate. $25 plus
shipping may not be a bad price for a 14W amp chip that is obsolete and
was priced at around $12 six years ago.
I would check the sound board very close for other problems that might
relate to a cause for this chip to fail before I mounted a replacement,
starting with the power going to pin 7 of the SIP -- not to exceed 18V.
