Re: Pirate Pinball Parts

< Well, I can see where you're coming from...but let's use an example.
How
about if I want a replacement backglass for my Williams Stardust? I'm
willing to bet that I am one of a VERY few people who may need or want
one
of these. Let's say for the sake of argument that 10 people want this
part
and are willing to pay for it. I'm sure that (in theory) ol' Wayne has
bigger fish to fry (side decals for DMD games, other stuff that has a
much
higher demand). So, what am I and my 9 other Stardust friends supposed
to
do? We can each find our own method (paper computer-scanned repro,
paint
touch-up, etc..) or what if we pooled our resources and contracted
someone
to professionally repro the glass? It would certainly be within Wayne's

rights to shut that action down since we're talking about copyrighted
artwork, but let's get real! He has no intention of making this item
AND
will prevent someone else from "picking up his crumbs". It's really not
the
same thing as someone videotaping a movie and selling bootleg DVD's on
the
street (or internet, or whatever) for 5 bucks a pop. It's not the same
as
hijacking a truckload of cigarettes and selling them on the street for
half
price. It is certainly one thing to protect one's investment, but to
say "I
refuse to supply your demand, AND I forbid anyone else to do so" is a
load
of crap. If I were to buy an "authorized" decal (for example) and run
some
copies off at Kinkos, start selling them for half price on Ebay...that
is a
pretty legitimate gripe. There really is a not-so-fine line here. I
think
that if there were an "authorized" supply to meet the demand, there
would be
no "pirated" parts. I don't think people are doing this sort of thing
because they are cheap, mean, looking to undermine someone else's
business,
or some kind of career criminal. There are people with pinball machines
that
NEED PARTS! Period! It's the law of supply and demand.

You hit the nail on the head! Chris if I need a part and I want a part,
I will find the part or have it made. I will buy 'bootleg' parts and
smile about it. No big deal to me.
