Re: [40k] Genestealer Cult; counts as?

I've been up to
my eye-balls in alligators at work lately (Dealing with aging PC
hardware, moving our testing center {with testing stations from two
different venders, one of which is damn near useless on tech support},
just finished up supporting an off-site testing center, and trying to
learn how half the stuff I'm supposed to maintain actually works, plus
the joys of generally dealing with users unhappy about something...)
The more I work in the I.T. field, the more I enjoy playing First
person shooter games. ;) I have plenty of ideas for new items to
add to the counters list, but far to little time to do it.

Sounds oddly familiar ...

In the past 3 weeks I've had the entire RAID array (3 drives in a RAID5
array of 5 drives with hotspare went down on the same day!) on the company
file server fail (the server is almost 10 years old), and had to swap in
hardware from our mail server (so that's now running on a desktop PC in the
interim) as we already had a new server on order to replace the file server.
The new server arrived Friday, and later that day our secondary web server
lost a drive in it's RAID array (3 drives RAID5, so that's now running
degraded and if I was a betting man I'd put money on it being dead by the
end of the week, but it was due to be consolidated onto another server
anyway).

And I'm also planning the company move to a new office. So that's
transplanting the entire network setup here with minimal downtime and
configuration changes. All our public IPs are changing, so I also have to
set up a reverse SSL proxy at this office to handle all the requests that
will come in during the transition period for DNS and feed out the responses
from the new public addresses. I've also got to build a server cabinet in
the new office and wire it all up because there's not enough room in the
building comms room to fit all our servers in, so the non-critical ones will
be in the office itself. Part of that includes another new server which has
a 3 week lead time - and we're supposed to be moving in 5 weeks ish, which
means not only am I frantically configuring a mail/DNS/web server that will
also be a DR staging system if required (Windows server VMs in XenServer),
I've also got to set up and configure the other new server coming in (which
will replace the file server, just hoping it makes it) to be a file,
application, print, and DR staging server (again, under XenServer). The end
result should be 5 current non-critical servers condensed down onto 2 and
enough spare capacity to deal with anything that might come up in the next
few years.

I also enjoy FPS games, but don't get chance at work (and besides, the
hardware is crap in these work desktop PCs, my kids have a better PC at
home!), not like the old days when we used to run Doom, Quake, and UT on the
company network at lunchtimes. Although I'm testing the next release of Buccaneer:
Pursuit of Infamy at the moment, which is a 3rd person pirate ship arcade
game - the new co-op play is good fun :)
