I realize one could
distinguish this differience if one wanted to make a lot of 'flight
stands' for vehicles, but I'm still not sure if it's even doable in
the
rules?
Nope, check the Skimmer rules - the only time you are allowed to
remove/change the base is if it's immobilised/wrecked and you want to
represent the model as on the ground/wrecked. Changing a base is
otherwise
disallowed, as it would allow players to take advantage of LOS (eg swap
to
tall stand in Movement phase, then shoot, then swap to smaller stand
after
shooting to hide behind terrain again).
hahaha shit ... if someone tried that with me i would seriously shove
both
bases AND the skimmer model up their ass. I really, really hope that
rule
wasn't written as a response to an actual incident.
potentially let skimmers effectively snipe from behind solid cover -
which did make them a real pain in the ass since we like to game with
tons of terrain on the table more often than not. Between that and
the new rules that pretty much let skimmers end up in any sort of
terrain, my group was trying to work out if the could 'pop up' so to
speak to avoid having to shoot through any obsuring terrain that the
vehicle itself was within during the shooting phase.
I just wondered if one could legally use the taller base on a skimmer
(though I wouldn't put up with switching bases after the movement phase
crap either - you're either up high or nape of the earth, not switching
during different phases of the turn).
That said, my Tau playing friend will still like the fact that he could
'fly' to the upper level of a tall building and 'rain down death' on my
poor misunderstood and friendly little Tyranids in exchange for a
dangerous terrain test.
Myr :)
There's also nothing in the FAQ stating that Sensor Spines no longer work as
written, so they would also allow him to ignore dangerous terrain tests,
although handling the TLOS side of things could be interested as the vehicle
counts as being inside the terrain ...
