One idea is to pick a theme song for each army and have it playing during
the appropriate turn.
And whatever you haven't moved by the end of the song doesn't get to be
moved? I like that - It'd speed things up nicely! ;)
So instead of a "you go I go" approach we could opt for the "musical Chairs"
turn sequence.
Interesting.
I'll have to remember to use Iron Butterfly for my 'Nids and anything from a
seventies Yes album when moving Orks.
Hey! I like Yes. For the Orks there's always 'Rawhide' (the infinite
loop version).
Well, thanks for the replies. ;-)
I've taken onboard the various soundtracks issue. I've even found
websites that have freely downloadable battle sounds, such as grenades,
guns, lazers for future war, etc. I recorded these over some music that
i had, and it all seems to work rather well. Of course I can't supply
any of these pieces of music on cd as it would break copyright issues.
But hopefully this will help some others with ideas for enhancing their
gameplay?
I do something similar but with more variety and less effort.
I've got an old computer down next to my gaming area, and I use Winamp.
If you've got a decent sound card, you can set it so that Winamp will
run more than one copy at the same time (at least you can with the older
versions - I've got Winamp 2.8 and 3.0 on the PC down in the basement.)
The other nice thing is that you can set both copies to play a different
volumes within the programs.
What I usually do is set one to play a couple of long continuous
loops of background battle sounds I've put together at a lower volume,
and the other one at a bit higher volume to play a long list various
sound bits. I used a program to 'dissassemble' a bunch of old Unreal
Tournament (UT 99) voice packs into their component wave files, as well
as sound bits from various movies, etc that I've scavanged off the web.
It's hilarious to be playing and suddenly hear Ash from 'Army of
Darkness' yell out "What the HELL was that? Are you trying to kill
us?" or Duke Nukem yelling "Born to be Wild!" in the middle of a battle.
The beauty of using Winamp is that it'll do random play so that the same
sound bites don't play in the same order each time and get repetative.
(And some of the multi sound bite combos it'll come up randomly with are
just hilarious.)
