you're all being way too mechanistic with this. for one thing, we can
imagine that a bolter would have an absolute max rof of about 300rpm - and
semi-auto at that - whereas a shuriken catapult is firing literally hundreds
of projectiles a second. the whole idea of the weapon is that it acts more
like a long-ranged cutting tool than like a projectile weapon limited to
explosive/trauma shock effects. for another, I'd imagine a bonded-alloy
body armor would offer about the same protection against either (i.e., jack
shit against direct hits, considering the power of the weapons in question).
