Having considered the responses to my announcing the passing of Jeff Boscole, I've decided my best course of action is not to respond to them at all, but to share with you something of the jb I knew:
I met him online in the 1990's and in person in 2002. We hit it off great, I think each of us recognized a kindred spirit in the other. Over the too few years I knew him, we've discussed, argued, and commiserated, but the one thing I will never forget about Jeff is that when he paid attention to you, it was like a palpable force, when Jeff paid attention to you, you knew it. Likewise, if you couldn't discuss something intelligently, you'd lose him, his mind would wander if you couldn't hold his interest.
He was part of a medical support team that provided 24\7 in-home care for a quadriplegic.
He lived with his father and provided care for the man when his mind and health began to fail.
He went to the public auctions in Bremerton to buy used computer equipment and parts, which he turned into inexpensive computers for people that couldn't afford better machines, and he provided support for what he built.
He was active in both the Go and chess scenes in Seattle.
He loved debate.
He treated his partner's child as his own.
He served in the military, and it says something about the respect which his peers there held for him, for during the time I knew him, they kept actively trying to get him to return to service.
He saw his role on this newsgroup as reconciliation, he truly believed that one day he could bring all the IGS\NNGS\KGS controversy to a mutually satisfactory conclusion.
While you may doubt me, I know Jeff was not a Jew hater, he didn't necessarily dislike Jews as people, rather he despised what he saw as the hypocrisy of the Israeli government.
He had one of the strongest internalized senses of personal responsibility and integrity I have ever seen in anyone, and he was generous with people, he was very giving, he had a big heart.
Most of you are probably familiar with him due to his work at Atari, his computer expertise, or his dabbling in math, however, Jeff went to university on a music scholarship, he played violin. I have megabytes of Bach violin music by various performers that he gave me.
That is a bit of the Jeff Boscole I knew, a good friend that I will miss for the rest of my life. Here is one of his favorite violin pieces, good-bye Jeff...
