the problem is that the user may end up have 2 java installed. assuming
there are no disk space issues this is no problem. but then the default
links for java have to be changed manually. it is likely to have
situacions like /usr/bin/java points to gnu java gnu, and that
/usr/bin/javaws points to sun java. all these links seem to go through
/etc/alternatives, at least in (k)ubuntu. again, this may be no problem
for the user who just wants to connect, but it may turn messy if the
user does not know what he has.
Nope
under Debian, at least, a single 'update-java-alternatives' is enough ..
no need to mangle with symlinks
my question is :
are my above statements correct?
Unfortunately, yes : java-gcj dont provides the javaws binary ..
is there a way to use javaws with gcj without installing sun-jre?
thanks to everybody for the replies. i wonder from where do you get
all this information ...
