Are we still harping on this? Perhaps IGS is also a server where
accounts just "reappear"? The number of people having problems is
also a "threshold test" to determine level of significance for fixing.

The KGS web site is also a server for go.

IGS also had a java server which is getting broken due to
several undocumented changes in the IGS (now secret) protocol.
Server page on the KGS website is distinct from the KGS ratings
graph page. The topic concerned whether it was possible to
obtain useful information from a Go Server without login. It is.

Now let's summarize: Three procedures are kept distinct
under IGS current configuration: (a) password change or reset,
(b) new account registration, (c) old account re-registration. Both
(a) & (b) may be done from webpage, however (c) is not enabled
from a webpage on account of its concept from original conception.
The need for (c) can stem from suspected security breach, or from
tallies of bounced email (result of receiving domain spam filter or
by invalid email address). The easy-fix-method is to login and do
"re-register procedure" by using the "register" command (confusing
due to its misnomer). Of course we learn that "register" instead does
"re-register" once reading the help file, though this is a "surprise
factor" in the literature, no doubt to keep Internet Players hopping.

At the outset one should think that all (a), (b), (c) could be
enabled from both the Server side (during login) or from webpage.
This would qualify as the "robust model" and ultimate goal for the
big software development contract. That mandate for redundancy
is to cast a wide net which encompasses all people struggling with
language, culture, and computer literacy impediments. Unfortunately
the level of significance for enabling (c) from a webpage is not yet
justified by the reported difficulties of only one player. If dozens of
players report similar notional problems then the level of significance
will be raised above the threshold level and thereby trigger a board
of review authorization for implementation of the software contract.
Previously (b) might have been enabled from the Server side, but
security considerations mandated that it, too, be accessible only
via the webpage. Instead of six options, (3) * (2), there are only
4 options. Option (a) can be done either from Server or Webpage.
Options (b) & (c) are enabled only from Webpage and only from
Server, respectively.

I argued for enabling option (c) from a Webpage, increasing
the number of options from 4 to 5. To do this requires java interface
into the Server using an undocumented protocol that is becoming
more and more secret day by day. Conflating password change or
reset with password confirmation, registration and re-registration is
antithetical to fundamental goals at IGS: if there is a problem with
an email address recorded in "stats" then such problems -must- be
resolved. This cannot persist, so the login difficulty with that email
address needs to be repaired prior to that re-registration difficulty.
Usually the new account creation procedure accomplishes bypass
with 30-day or 60-day old account timeout and the player is "back in
the saddle" once again, riding herd on those cyberspace opponents,
racking up a new statistical record and increasing the rank numbers.
A java interface could be designed and built, but this will not occur
from complaints of only one player. That's where the situation lies.
Two players are required to establish meritorious standing, and then
the "territory count" of the number of valid complaints begins. Under
the older rules "group tax" eliminated points used only for the eyes.
