I am selecting the tournaments where we have most data. Now I have looked at the Judan (1962-2002), Tengen (1976-2002) and Gosei (1975-2002) and I get the following figures:On Mon, 26 Sep 2005 13:54:36 +0100, T Mark Hall <tmark@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:I have refined the search to games played in the Kisei (1977-2003), Meijin (1978-2002) and Honinbo (1975-2002) tournaments where the komi was 5.5 throughout. This produces a list of 3004 games, Kisei 867, Meijin 1123 and Honinbo 1014 and I get 222 half point results:
Thanks for these entertaining figures!
Kisei Black 27 White 44
Meijin Black 37 White 39
Honinbo Black 33 White 42
This gives White a 56.3% advantage.
My interpretation would be (to exaggerate a little): As long as it depends mostly on the name of the title, there are not enough data for them to be significant.
Judan, 1094 games B 30 W 58
Tengen, 715 games B 31 W 42
Gosei, 892 games B 21 W 21
White's advantage 59.6%.
If I add the earlier figures, for a total 5705 games, White has a 57.88% advantage in games where the difference was only half a point.
Best wishes. -- T Mark Hall www.gogod.demon.co.uk www.gogod.demon.co.uk/NewInGo/NewInGo.htm .
