Consciousness or Mind – hence efforts to detect such a reality by
purely physical means will never be successful.
Semantic waffle. What does it mean to say that something is real if it
*cannot be* detected (as distinct from *not yet detected*)?
Why postulate the existence of something that has, by definition, no
detectable effect on reality? Clearly, by that definition, the world
operates exactly the same without it.
The author is highly critical of the onesidedness of a purely
quantitative approach, and of the ways in which scientism castigates
those who do not follow its dictates.
I hope I never meet a practicioner of “scientism”, then. It's a good
thing that science requires and encourages current evidence and
reasoned debate in order to discard falsehoods.
He is a very clearly aware of the intrinsic limitations of modern
science
How can one be positively aware of limitations on awareness? More
waffle. “Cannot currently detect” is not the same as “cannot ever
be detected”.
He shows how the mind is used within this structure of argument
effectively to deny itself, and draws attention to the importance of
presuppositions, criticising, for instance, the assumption that
realism can be equated with reality.
And for an encore, goes on to prove that black is white and gets
killed at the next zebra crossing.
