Also, Monte was sacked last time, created a whole 'nother company that
did well enough to give rise to the current head of team D&D, and there's at
least 3.5, 3.P, 4a, 4e, and beta-5 between now and then. Not to mention
Arcana Unearthed, Arcana Evolved, and the whole Ptolus thing.

This time he walked in protest. I'm all imagining it like ...
