My take on it: A human needs about 2k calories per day,
But this, I have to nitpick. As long as you're fairly inactive, docile,
and don't mind a short life span and huge vulnerability to disease, you only
/need/ 1k calories per day. That's all real medieval European peasant folk
had in pre-plague years. Big part of why the plague happened.
Maybe why there are so many ghouls around. People turn to
cannibalism, cannibalism (unlike rl) turns people to ghouls.
But Ghouls are *cold* and inactive to the point of being dead for a lot
of the time. That drops you to 100 calories, and more like 1 pound per three
days at most.
They don't *need* anything. They are undead sustained by negative
energy.
But like skeletons, their /sustenance/ should come from dead-magic. They
just want to eat because of the curse. Tempting to make them all get
hungrier if you hook them to a plow, of course. Eat like a horse then, eh..
To be a curse and appropriately scary/disgusting etc. They should need
to eat more than a human to avoid the bad effects of the curse.
