As a Christian, this is *exactly* what I'm supposed to
do. I don't see it as foolish but rather as optimistic.
As St. John (Lennon) said: All you need is love.
you're a gullible fool then.
I'd rather be a "gullible fool" that helps folks
and works to increase goodness in the world than
a bitter, miserly, spiteful, hateful cuss begin
eaten away from the inside while increasing the
world supply of badness.
let's be straight, I don't cause their misfortune but resent any attempt to force me to help them when they fall. I didn't make them fall and when I fall they will betray any help I ever did for them.
How do you know this in advance? If you did not cause their fall, how do you know they will use your help against you?
let's see... oh yeah, their trecherous nature. if they are my enemy and have wrong me once, they have already made their bed as far as I am concerned. I will take no chances on them.
why should I help them if I didn't cause their situation?
I'm not saying you should. I'm saying your reasons for denying others help because you know in advance they will use it against you are spurious, and if they are the real reasons you deny others help then yo are deluded; and why would you willingly hold onto such beliefs?
you admit there is no reason I should.
using a religious lie will not be considered a valid answer.
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is not copyrighted by any religion.
more often it's do unto others first before they get a chance. just because you help them doesn't mean they will help you and in most cases they won't. in most cases they will make you suffer for helping them.
how can ignoring and abandoning strangers who mean nothing to me be wrong? why must they mean anything to me if they don't do anything or give me anything?
Are strangers enemies?
if they ever wrong me even once, yes.
why in fact should we have compassion for enemies, when in fact they will betray us every single time they have the chance. they won't suddenly be our friends. only a gullible mark will buy that.
By helping those who are down, you sometimes turn an enemy into a friend. Not always, but it does happen.
it doesn't really occur. believing they would become a friend is a delusion. the enemy may say they are a now a friend, but is usually a con job to betray you as soon as they get the chance. I'm not buying it. suckers can take the chances and be scammed later if they want.
You talk alot about hate and anger and generally a very confrontational world. While you obviously view religion as false, have you ever considered what medicine and psychology have to say about anger and hate? Generally medical texts all agree that hate and anger are useful emotions at times, but the overreliance on these emotions leads to chemical imbalances that can harm the body. Personally, just from a health perspective it makes more sense to approach things in a gentler manner.
I prefer to keep my apathy. it serves me well not to care. not giving a crap is easy on my health.
