I hear you. I'm trying to keep the tone reasonable. I can't control
anyone else, but I can try to make my part of the discussion civil.

The funny thing is I got less grief over my Mighty Morphin' Power
Rangers analogy and I think it's even closer to 4e than a Segal movie.
I mean you got your power source, expression tool and side effect
gimmick. Maybe TMNT. :-)

I was just rolling my eyes at that point. Plus, I don't know the Power
Rangers well enough to judge whether it's an apt analogy. :)

Anyway, all of this reminds me of a problem I'm having with a neighbor
right now. The path to his unit goes right past the place where my dogs
usually poo, and he's pissed off about it. Now, the dogs haven't even
been at my place for three weeks -- they're visiting my ex-wife -- and
I've cleaned the patio thoroughly since then. The security guard who
came to talk to me about it said that she couldn't even smell anything.

However, there IS a slight earthy smell in the afternoons when the sun
shines on my side of the building. It smells a lot like fresh asphalt.
It doesn't carry much. However, because the neighbor is already
irritated, even this small issue is a big nuisance for him.

A lot of people were saying that D&D4 may have good skirmish rules, but
it's crap for roleplaying (with degrees of "crap" ranging from "a little
worse than D&D3" to "not a role-playing game"). A lot of folks were also
saying ridiculous, untrue things about both the game and the fans. And
as I mentioned in another post, this is hardly new to D&D4. Fans of
other RPGs have been saying the same thing about all versions of D&D
since forever.

Because of this, anything along the lines of "it's better suited as a
wargame" is going to irritate people who were on the receiving end of
the criticism up to that point. Best to just let things cool off,
because there's more to the problem than trying to keep a reasonable
tone.
