One of the sticking points for me is the energy source that fuels
undead. This is one of the reasons I've been given for why
non-intelligent undead are Evil. The argument being that they are
created via Negative Energy from the Negative Plane. One small glitch,
the Negative Plane isn't Evil. So how can the energy from that plane
be Evil?

I still think that it would be very interesting to tie 'Alignment'
(caps intended) to planar connections and add more possible alignments
(less common though) to cover elemental and pos/neg plane. I'd want
to leave most folk unaligned and reserve detectable alignment for
folks/critters with significant ties. Then you could have
unintelligent undead ping for negative material plane alignment (and
very possibly have that frequently mistaken for Evil).

And I still think this idea has a lot of potential.
