I don't think this addresses the question of what's happening WITHOUT
intervention. Arguing spirituality away because you can induce "spiritual
experiences" mechanically is like arguing vision away because modern movies
have great special effects.

That we can find ways to confuse a sense doesn't prove that there's nothing
being sensed.
